Preen S/S 2010

Earlier this afternoon, a hardcore Preen loving friend of mine clued me in to how extremely amazing Preen's Spring 2010 show was. And indeed she was correct.

While, California is quite season-less, I sometimes feel that dressing for warm weather can be difficult. Especially with my aesthetics. Usually in the summer, I resort to skimpy sundresses with boots, or loose tank tops/belted tunics with short shorts. Preen always seems to offer something more, something inspiring for those warmer days.

Let's start off with dresses. The first dress just kills me. As long as I can remember, I've been obsessed with lingerie inspired clothing. So the lace, mesh, corset-esque piping initially drew me in, then the flash of pink and the cutouts made me go insane.







Also, I rarely pay attention to bottoms during fashion shows. But how could you not ignore these? Again I fell for the lace and pink piping number. I'm also quite obsessed with the jumpsuit and metallic jodhpurs.

Roberto Cavalli S/S 2010

Caught a glimpse of Roberto Cavalli's men's Spring 2010 line while flipping through WWD this morning. I'm crazy about the fold over details on the pants. Everything else is leaving me a little cold.

"Let Them Eat Cake" She Said..

Just wanted to share what is, quite possibly, my favorite Christian Dior Haute Couture collection. This is Spring 2006 inspired by the violence of the French Revolution.

I love practically everything about this collection. The corseting, the asymmetrical skirts, the volume, even the blood.

I particularly like how some of the makeup makes the models look like wax death masks a la Madame Tussaud. If you do a google search for Marie Antoinette's death mask, it'll pop up, as well as Louis XIV's.

I suppose I only wish the shoes were stronger.... and that I could afford it (I suppose that's a given).

Vintage Dior

I was flipping through an issue of L'Officiel and felt compelled to immediately scan these two images from Dior's Fall 1947 collection.


I'm particularly smitten with the first look. The contrast chiffon sash is stunning when paired with what looks to be leather opera gloves. It's stealthy and dramatic at the same time.


This outfit on the other hand is full drama. I'm loving every bit of it. Full length fur cape. Need I say more?

CDG

Every time PFW rolls around, I get antsy for the CDG gang to show off their stuff. Rei, Junya and Tao rarely disappoint me (especially Mr. Watanabe).

The Comme Des Garcons line always inspires me. Although I don't find it nearly as poetic as her bride collection, but beautiful nontheless.



Junya Watanabe is hands down one of my favorite designers. His ability to balance avant garde with utility, romanticism with edge, and extravagence with minimalism never fails to astound me. I swear it took all of my might to not clean out his store while I was in Tokyo about 3 years ago (this was when he did the collection with the trench coats and crazy spiked wigs). Luckily nothing I could afford fit. I'd give my left arm to pick his brain and watch him work for just one day.



Tao Kurihara is also amazing. I'm not the biggest fan of how her collections are styled but her individual pieces are usually strong. I'd wear any of the dresses below with some silver doc martens. I'm also a big fan of the skirts on the right, and the top in the middle.

Just Can't Get Enough

Hopped on over to style.com to see close-ups of the Nina Ricci shoes. I have 2 pairs of Nina Ricci platforms and they're actually very comfortable and easy to walk in, so it makes these shoes even more tempting. I swear I need the hot pink. I NEEEED.

I <3 Olivier

While everyone is going gaga over Balmain, I've been oggling Nina Ricci's latet collection, and possibly Olivier's last for the label. I'm sure you have all seen the latest Gareth and Balmain collections on numerous blogs, so I'll stick with Olivier.

Olivier Theyskens is someone I've been following for awhile now. First designing under his own name, then under Rocha, and now Nina Ricci. I love this collection with it's hard edge and amazing towering platform shoes (the shoes totally remind me of Luxirare).







PS: These shoes look promising, unless they're pants with boots attached. In which case, I retract my comment.


PPS: I told myself I wouldn't focus on new collections, but unfortunately, I have no access to my computer with all my archived collections, scans, and saved images. Hopefully, I'll have a more original post soon.
